Werling & Sons, Inc. is a family-owned and operated stockyard and meat
market and has been in existence since 1886.
The company was founded by Joseph A. Werling, who managed a meat market, and
the first plant was built in 1946 by Albert Werling, Joseph's son. Meat has
been processed and packaged for individual home freezers at this plant since
1956. In 1966, beef was canned in metal cans. In the years that followed,
Werling's has also been canning pork, chicken and turkey.
In the canning process, raw meat is placed in cans, the cans are sealed, and the
product is cooked in it's natural juices. Werling's canned meats have become
popular because of their convenience, low fat content, and non-refrigerated
shelf-life. They also contain no preservatives.
A retail store at the processing plant offers frozen cuts of beef and pork,
custom processing, our ever popular canned meats, and our award-winning summer
sausages. Werling and Sons, Inc. is located in Burketsville, Ohio, between
Mercer and Darke Counties (two of the leading agricultural counties in Ohio).
